A Practical Linen Care Manual
Linen is one of the oldest, most sustainable textiles we wear today — and one of the most rewarding to care for. It’s strong, tactile, and alive in a way that synthetic fabrics will never be. But that same life requires a little attention.
Here’s how to care for your linen pieces so they last, age beautifully, and remain part of your wardrobe for seasons to come.
Washing
Linen is low-maintenance, but quality deserves care.
-
Machine wash on a gentle cycle, cold or lukewarm (30°C recommended).
-
Use mild, eco-friendly detergent — skip the bleach and anything too abrasive.
-
Wash with similar colors, and avoid overloading the drum.
We don’t recommend dry cleaning unless the garment is structured or specifically labeled as such.
Drying
-
Air dry whenever possible — it’s gentler on the fibers and preserves shape.
-
Lay flat or hang on a padded hanger. Keep out of direct sun to avoid fading.
-
Tumble drying is not ideal, but if you must, use low heat and remove while slightly damp to avoid over-drying.
Wrinkles & Ironing
Natural creasing is part of linen’s character. That said:
-
For a crisp look, iron inside out while the garment is still damp, using medium heat and steam.
-
A hand steamer works beautifully — especially for flowy styles like our JŪRA dress.
-
We love linen’s lived-in softness, but you’re always free to sharpen the lines if the occasion calls for it.
Storage
-
Store in a cool, dry space — never plastic. Linen loves to breathe.
-
Fold neatly or hang structured pieces on padded or wooden hangers.
-
Don’t hang knits or bias-cut linen dresses long-term — they can stretch out of shape.
A Note on Longevity
Well-made linen doesn’t wear out — it wears in. With each wash, the fabric softens while maintaining its integrity. You don’t need to baby it. Just treat it with awareness.
At Eve & Sailor, we choose linen not only for its natural elegance, but because it aligns with how we imagine a wardrobe: grounded, enduring, sensory.
You don’t need ten of everything.
You need a few things done well.
And linen, cared for thoughtfully, is one of them.
